This is a repository for all of the 2018 EPOCH Alaska Air Iditarod Adventure Dispatches that have expired (Date a/o Time).

Please feel free to use them, even if they have expired as "near-real-time".

2018 Iditarod DISPATCH #0301

Date/Time: Saturday March 3, 2018 - 0700 AKST

From: ICAO 4900 (Merrill Field) Tie Down

 

Aircraft Requirements: 1 crew + 1 pax (145 lbs.). Gravel and asphalt landing surfaces.

 

Aircraft: Small STOL

 

 

 

 

Itinerary:

 

1. Pick up Sandy a Meteorologist, she will be waving near Iditarod Loading area beside SnoGo.

 

2. Fly at 1,000' AGL to 4901 Campbell, Sandy will assess wind, weather and trail conditions.

 

3. Overfly Campbell and head north. Overfly PAFR Bryant.

 

4. Continue North. Overfly PABV Birchwood.

 

5. Turn to 030 and fly to 14AK Four Corners. Overfly.

 

6. Turn to 275 and fly to PAWS Wasilla. Overfly.

 

7. Turn to 285 and fly to 4902 Willow. Land.

 

8. Taxi to the small control tower. Shut down, stay in aircraft. Sandy will debark and return in 5 minutes.

 

9. Secure Sandy in the aircraft and taxi to the active runway. Takeoff.

 

10. Fly under 3,000' AGL direct to PAFR Bryant Airbase.

 

11. Land and taxi to the large twin hangars midfield. Sandy will depart here and continue in her office.

 

12. Start aircraft and taxi to active runway with appropriate clearances.

 

13. Take off and return to 4900 Merrill Field.

 

 

 

 

Note(s)

 

1. You must be back at Merrill Field by 0930, as the official ceremonial start begins at 1000 and EPOCH is clearing the airspace at this time. If you cannot make it back by then, you must stay along the coastline and then clear for Z41, Lake Hood Strip. This is the only airport you are cleared to use after 0930 and before 1000. If you are later than 1000, then return to PAFR Bryant and wait until further tasking or 1030 when you may proceed back to Merrill Field to attend a 1200 briefing by the Chief Pilot.

Aircraft: Small STOL

 

 

Itinerary:

 

1. Pick up an Anchorage Official at the Loading area at Merrill.

 

2. Fly at 1,000' AGL to Downtown Anchorage, locating the Iditarod Ceremonial Start near the waterfront.

 

3. Circle 3 times at precisely 500 feet above ground level. You have clearance for this. Watch for traffic.

 

4. Depart Anchorage for 4901 Campbell.

 

5. Land and taxi to apron. The Official will debark there.

 

6. Taxi to tiedown and shut down. You may remain to watch the sled teams go past the airfield.

1. You must be back at Merrill Field by 1200 for a briefing by the Chief Pilot.

1. Pick up a Media Team at the Iditarod Loading area at Merrill.

 

2. Fly at 3,000' AGL or less to 4902 Willow.

 

3. Land and taxi to terminal area.

 

4. Assist unloading the passengers and gear.

 

5. Start aircraft and taxi to active runway with appropriate clearances.

 

6. Take off and return to 4900 Iditarod (Merrill) Field.

Aircraft Requirements: 1 crew, Boxed Cargo + safety gear (820 lbs.). Gravel and asphalt landing surfaces.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Itinerary:

 

1. Pick up Cargo (Boxes - fit small door) at the Iditarod Loading area at Merrill. Secure Cargo.

 

2. Fly below 3,000' AGL to 4902 Willow.

 

3. Taxi to unloading area and remove boxed cargo.

 

4. Pick up 20 trail markers and 5 new sleds (450 lbs.) These will fit in a small door aircraft.

 

5. Taxi to active, get clearance and depart Willow for 4903 Yentna.

 

6. Land and taxi to tiedown and shut down. Remove sleds and markers.

 

7. Return to Merrill Field via 6AK2 Sleeper's Strip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note(s):

 

1. You must cross from 6AK2 across the Narrows to Merrill to avoid flight congestion along the ceremonial trail sections.

 

2. Far requires using cargo nets.

2018 Iditarod DISPATCH #0301P (POP-UP)

Date/Time: Saturday March 3, 2018 - 0630 AKST

From: ICAO 4900 (PAMR Merrill Field) STOL Aircraft can use RWY 05/23.

 

Aircraft Requirements: 1 crew, 5 pax + gear/bags (1285 lbs.). Asphalt & gravel landing surfaces.

 

Suggest aircraft: C-206 or Equivalent

 

 

 

 

 

 

Itinerary:

 

Time sensitive, Flight must be expedited. 2 Race Judges & 3 Race Officials are needed for the Ceremonial Start of the Race. At 0600 they were scheduled to be flown from PASX Soldotna Airport on the Kenai Peninsula back to PAMR Merrill Field. Their aircraft has mechanical trouble and cannot be used. There are no aircraft available and they need to be transported back to Anchorage.

 

1. Locate a suitable aircraft at EPOCH Quebec Transient E, Taxi to active runway.

 

2. Get clearance and fly to PASX Soldotna Airport.

 

3. Land, taxi to the mid runway ramp, locate a brown building near the fuel depot, shut down. The people will be waiting there.

 

4. Load the Judges and Officials, Start Engine and Taxi to active runway, get clearence.

 

5. Take off and fly back to PAMR (Merrill Field)

 

6. Land and taxi to the University of Alaska. Shut down and assist debark of passengers. They will be picked up there.

 

7. Return aircraft to EPOCH Quebec Transient E. Shut down, secure aircraft.

 

8. Pilots will go to the EPOCH Office and file a pilot report then wait or take other dispatches.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note(s):

 

1. The flight should end at or before 0900, however no later than 0930 since the airspace at or around the race will be closed to all aircraft at that time.

From: ICAO CYXQ (Beaver Creek) Tie Down

 

Aircraft Requirements: 2-crew + safety gear (up to 450 lbs.) Asphalt landing surface.

 

Aircraft: DC-3/47 Unit #5 For TDY

 

 

Itinerary:

 

Time sensitive, Ferry Flight, no pax. Larger aircraft are needed to transport personnel associated with the race. There are now many additional requests for flights to Willow. Flights will begin after the Cerimonial race ends.

 

1. Pre-flight DC-3/47 at Beaver Creek.

 

2. Fuel the plane to 1 hour over calculated fuel needed.

 

3. Taxi to Rwy 14 or 32 being mindful of wind direction and speed.

 

4. Take off and fly to PAMR (Merrill Field) use the safest route for weather conditions.

 

5. Land and taxi to EPOCH Quebec Transient E, shut down, secure aircraft.

 

6. Pilots will go to the EPOCH Office and file a pilot report then wait or take other dispatches.

 

 

 

 

Note(s):

 

1. You must be in full visuals (VFR) of the ground at all times. If this is a problem return to the Departure Airport and wait for better weather.

Flight should be completed by: Sunday March 4, 2018 - 0930 AKST

 

From: ICAO 4904 (Skwentna) EPOCH Tie Down

 

Aircraft Requirements: 1 crew + safety gear (210 lbs.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Itinerary/task: Cessna C-185F Aircraft Ferry Flight. Additional aircraft are needed at Merrill.

 

1. Pilot needs to be at 4904 Skwentna or arrange transportation to get there.

 

2. At Skwentna, ground crew and pilot will prep and pre-flight the C-185F.

 

3. Fly the aircraft to 4900 Merrill Field using the safest route for weather & traffic conditions.

 

4. Land at Merrill Field, taxi to the EPOCH Quebec Transient E or Iditarod staging area. shut down & secure act.

 

5. Pilot will report to the EPOCH Office and await further instructions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Note(s):

 

1. Watch for increased traffic in all of the areas associated with the Iditarod Race.

From: ICAO 4902 (Willow) Tie Down

 

Aircraft Requirements: 1 crew, 1 pax + safety gear (185 lbs.). Gravel and snow-covered landing surfaces.

 

Suggest: STOL, Small Slow Fixed Wing

 

 

 

 

 

 

Itinerary:

 

1. Select an appropriate aircraft and flight plan.

 

2. Taxi near the Iditarod Checkpoint and pick up an official observer.

 

3. Takeoff and fly the Trail (see NOTAM #7 beginning of this thread) 1,000 AGL, to 4906 Rainy Pass, the observer will record conditions.

 

4. Land at Rainy Pass and taxi near the Iditarod Checkpoint, shut down and secure the act.

 

5. The observer will report conditions to Iditarod Officials.

 

6. Pilot will contact the EPOCH Office to see if there are additional flight instructions.
