About Me

Perhaps I should start off, given today's meaning of the word "troll", by explaining my handle. I'm an avid wilderness canoeist and often look pretty scruffy when I return home from a trip so one day my wife came across a picture of a cave man, dressed in skins carrying an oracle over one shoulder and a skin with his belongings over the other. She pinned it to the bulletin board over my desk and said "that's you coming home from a trip!" Years ago, a client, who originated from Norway, saw the photo and said "he looks like a Troll"... the name stuck, hence Capt Troll. I'm really not a "troll" by today's understanding of the word... just ask gofigure or bc. :)

In the real world, I am a retired graphic designer of some 35 years where I employed graphic software like FreeHand, Illustrator and PhotoShop. I am a fine art painter and I do small home renovations for clients I know and trust. I am an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the challenge of white water canoeing and wilderness travel in a traditional cedar canvas canoe designed and built by myself and a couple of friends. I was born in Orillia Ontario and currently reside in Innisfil Ontario near Lake Simcoe.

Hiya Cpt Troll,
I wanted to thank you for the messages on my profile. Your connection with the Beaver story is touching and, isn't it always the way, paved the path forward for a lifetime of enjoyment within the aviation field.

When I was a wee lad living in Toronto in the 60s, my Dad used to take me up to Downsview to watch the aircraft and look about wherever we could poke our noses. I don't specifically recall the Beaver (I was but 8 years of age) but I've always had fond memories of those times and they too have driven me into aviation in many ways over the decades.

As far as the martial arts - that is great that you too are a practitioner. I have been studying and practicing the Taoist form of Tai Chi for 19 years now and enjoy every opportunity to do a set in new places - ocean surf through to frozen, snow-covered lake. :)

A pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Welcome sir!
As per your writeup in Info, I am very interested in any stories you might wish to share regards your family ties to deHavilland. I have no ties with the family, but fell deeply in love with the Beaver when I first flew it in Price Rupert, BC in the mid 80s. Since then I have been somewhat of a Beaver "nut" - oh, along with Noorduyn Norseman aircraft which I had the pleasure of a right seat tour up in Red Lake one fine day in the 90s.

Hope you have a great time here :)
