I've been trying to find a decent "Twotter", MUST HAVE A 3D COCKPIT, for use in XP 10.22.3 with HDR on. Tried X-Hangar's payware offering but the graphics were unacceptable with the overhead panel not displaying and multiple gaps in the cockpit.

I was finally saved by Pedro at AeroPedro X-Plane Hangar

There are three files for the Twotter with 3d panel
DHC6-300 Twin Otter (long nose)-v970-3D.zip
DHC6-300 Twin Otter (short nose)-v970-3D.zip
DHC6-100 Twin Otter (short nose)-v970-3D.zip, for the 100 series.

I have done a bit of work in Planemaker as follows:-

Changed HSI from HSI 2 to HSI 1 (to get nav info from VOR 1)
Changed VOR 1 to VOR 2 (to get nav infor from VOR 2)
Removed a phantom switch from under engine 1 oil pressure gauge.
Added digital DME 1 and 2 gauges.
Added digital OAT gauge.

The aircraft is enjoyable to fly by hand and looks good.

All I need is a new EPOCH livery, beyond my capabilities, and I will be happy.

I noticed the advertisement from him and wondered how his 3D might be.

Thanks for the min-review and also the tweak notes. Certainly helpful dissy :)

So I thought these were reworks of his originals. Have you tried wrapping the Twin Otter livery, found at the EPOCH AA VA tab, part way down the page and in plain text, around it to see if it fit?

Let us know if you give it a go, but we have a good number around here that enjoy the Twotter, so I'm sure this thread will get some attention.

Cheers,

Had a look at the livery but all I end up with is the default white.

Attached a screen shot of the panel as I have it at the moment. Just right click on the thumbnail then open image in a new tab.

THANK YOU DISSY! For the info on AeroPedro's Twotter .. I've been searching for a good Twotter as well (like you .. 3D panel a must).

I saw AeroPedro's on his web page but I thought they were all 2D only! Thanks for the confirmation, will download tonight!

BTW, I bought Aerosoft's BEAUTIFUL Twotter Extended for FSX and it's absolutely fantastic. I really hope that they convert it to X-Plane as there are many aspects of FSX that ruin the 'flying' experience for me.

Aeropedro's twotters are very good in my untrained and in-expert opinion. They 'feel' just about how I would imagine a Twotter to fly.

I wish I was a 3D graphics genious .. because these Twotter's would be candidates to have a cockpit and visual model refurb for sure ... all the hard work (aerodynamics and systems) has been done!

I have the Aeropedro 3d twotters Not bad also not so good, Changing from 2d to 3d dropped my frame rate in half, like 40 down to 20. which is still acceptable unles your fr is already low from rendering and weather etc.

Have been messing around with Aeropedro's twotter for quite a while--months.  His new 3D cockpit treatment seems excellent for freeware. I use the 9.7 versions, and love the EPOCH livery that Altair43 created for it.

But I am having no luck at all getting the -alt-acf files to work.  There are tundra, landplane and floatplane folders, all with an .acf file within them.  But when I try to load any of them, X-Plane complains there is no airfoil and sets about creating one, 150 mouseclicks at a time(!) to get through the process, so I can get out of the plane and into something that will work.

Is anyone else, who is using Aeorpedro's 9.7 versions having this problem?  I tried re-downloading the files again, but same problem...no airfoil found for the three alternate aircraft body styles.

MarvH, my approach to handling Pedro's "-alt acf files" is to duplicate the entire "DHC6-300 Twin Otter v970-3D" folder/directory two times.

Rename the new folders to identify them as the Tundra and Floatplane variants.  From within each new duplicate, move the appropriate alternate .acf to the base folder, overwriting the original.

You should wind up with three separate Twin Otter folder/directories to choose from within X-Plane's "Open Aircraft".

MarvH the "alt act files" are not a complete aircraft file, they are the old 2d panel only act files. If you want to go back to 2d panel only then you cut or copy the "Twin OtterTundra.act" (do this for each varient) file from the "alt act files" then paste in the main aircraft folder that you are changing like "Tundra" and overwrite the original. Or do like Roc said, then you have 2 sets of all versions float, tundra, sea etc., 1 set 3d & 2d and 1 set 2d only.  I don't see the reasoning for this since you can switch each from 3d to 2d.

Methinks Pedro is still getting his head around 3D :)

Thanks, bc, Roc and gofigure. :)

I'll go with the duplication mode, then subsitute the variant -alt acf file back (up) into the main file, overwritting what's there.  I thought about that as a workaround; but find it hard to believe Pedro puts the set out there (proudly) without explanation of how to get the -alt acf's to work.  I have written to him about this. I'm probably not the first. I'll report back here if/when I hear from him.

Or I could just pay4play with X-hanger. But dissy kinda "dissed" it at the top of this thread.. :P  On the third hand, I run 9.7 and think that perhaps the graphics might look better.  Most things seem to, for me at least.

I've been flying Pedro's 3D default versions of the model, and the 3D is ok with me.

And I LOVE Altair43's EPOCH livery for the 3 models.  Just frustrated that I can't get all the variants of each model to work.

Thanks, again.  I'll report back.

Marv, Rocky's explanation of how to do it is spot on. It will work flawlessly.

...and, in V 9.7, I actually prefer X-Hangar's product. Haven't tried it in V10 except to look at the liveries :)

"Verrrrrrrry interrrrrrestingk", as the late Artie Johnson used to say.

Like I said on the Org today, it may be v11.5 before I leave good ol' 9.7!!  Ha!!

Thank you, sir.  8)

AeroPedro has just released his first, full 3D Twotter.

The "base pack" is just one model, the 6-300LN, but has full 3D imagery now in the 2D cockpit, as well as other improvements, including working landing gear.  There is an " -alt acf" download as well for this pack (only), that provides the 6-300 in Short Nose versions of landplane, floatplane, seaplane and tundra.
