I am a 70 year old engineer, retired as VIce President Engineer from GE Capital in 2005. I have both graduate and undergraduate degrees and have worked in over 20 countries and lived abroad in Asia. I held high level positions in Japan, Singapore, and of course the US. I held corporate Engineering responsibilities for a Fortune 50 Company for the Far East, Australia, and Latin America. In the military I served as an Engineer/scientist at the Arctic Test Center in Alaska under secret Test & Evaluation Command assignment for the Pentagon. I also served in a civilian position as a GM-15 for the US Navy for several years in the Far East.
Personally, the first time I circled the globe I traveled by motorcycle from ocean to ocean in the US followed by Hawaii, Asia, Europe then back to the US. The second time was six months later in the opposite direction, picking up my Honda Goldwing in San Francisco and completing the round trip motorcycle trip across the US. After I got married to my wonderful wife I met in Tokyo and we had two children, they had circled the globe three times by the age of seven. Both my son and daughter, under 30, now live in Japan and are muli-lingual and world travelers.
I live in Connecticut, about six miles from Sandy Hook, and of course am affected by the horrific tragedy that occurred here.
I am a former skydiver and still am an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and amature astronomer.
As a foot note, Zymurg is short for Zymurgy which is basically the process of brewing beer. I am a home brew enthusiast with emphasis on English Ales, Porters, and German Lagers. I brewed and participated in many brewing competitions for about 15 years until I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, which restricts my diet of Gluten. I am also a cancer survivor and enjoying life and travel with my wife Yuki.
